My Homegirls Whole Wheat Bread

img_5624I know there are so many people who are adamant about staying away from bread. My advice, find a new diet cult because the “no bread” diet sucks. My 8 year old daughter made this bread by herself. She rolled up her sleeves, kneaded the dough and sang some weird 8 year old remix of a rap song she heard on the radio. It was made with love. Really, she gets the credit for this one. Enjoy this easy  bread recipe… I love it with lots of butter and strawberry jam.

Ingredients I Used:

You’ll need a Crockpot (you can also use a dutch oven on low 225 degrees)

1 packet of “fast” active yeast (2 + 1/4 tsp)

1 + 1/2  tbs of sugar (your choice)

1/2 tsp salt

3 + 1/2 cups of flour (we used organic whole wheat)

3 tbsp of butter (If you want to make this vegan, you can use coconut oil or olive oil)

1 + 1/4 cups of lukewarm waterimg_5618-4

parchment paper

+ extra flour for dusting

This Is How London Made I

In a large bowl mix flour, sugar, salt and yeast.

Add the lukewarm water.

Kneed the bread until all ingredients are incorporated. If the dough is still sticky dust the dough with more flour, small amounts at a time.

Form into a dough ball and place in a large bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Store at room temperature for 6-8 hours. This is a perfect project to leave all day and return to later.

The dough should have doubled in size during the 6-8 hour time. Kneed the dough one more time and form back into a ball.

Place a piece of parchment paper in your crock pot. Place the dough ball in the middle of the crock pot and cook on low for 2 1/2 – 3 hours. let sit inside the crockpot for 30 minutes to set.

if the bread has formed a crunchy crust, its done!! Enjoy warm
